Earth Hour 2009

Don't forget to observe Earth Hour today at 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm (local time). The premise is pretty simple, just turn off all your lights for an hour. Our plans for Earth Hour are to unplug everything we can and play board games by candlelight. We are headed to The Better Living Show to get geared up for Earth Hour. How did you spend Earth Hour?

Giant Crab Attacks Downtown Portland!

It might sound like a headline from a cheesy monster movie but it's real people. Okay, maybe not totally real. There is a giant crab in downtown Portland, but unfortunately it is an inflatable giant crab.

We have learned from some more experienced Portlanders that "Jake the Crab" visits Portland every year for St. Patrick's Day and hangs out on the building that houses one of our favorite restaurants - Jake's Famous Crawfish. I wish I knew why but I've been unable to find the story behind the crab which has left my imagination to run wild.

So I think Jake is such a fan of St. Patrick's Day that he leaves the planet of giant inflatables to join the celebrations here on Earth. Now I can't figure out why he would come to Portland, Oregon and not Dublin, Ireland. But my theory is that he has some family or friends here so he thinks he can save some money by combining his St. Patty's Day fun while visiting his other giant inflatable friends. Whatever his reasons I'm glad Jake makes Portland his home for a couple weeks every year.

Are we still in Portland?

Last night, we went out for some fun on the town. Okay, we really just went to Target, Best Buy, and Barnes and Nobles. Don't judge! While at Best Buy and Barnes & Nobles, we got the strangest feeling... like we were not in Oregon anymore....

Saw this in the bargain bin at Barnes and Nobles

Now I don't want to alarm anyone, but there is either a tear in the space-time continuum, or some store in OK is missing some merchandise.

Oklahoma's Rock Song

So I have been wanting to do a post about the awesomeness of The Flaming Lips for awhile. Now I finally have a reason. The great citizens of Oklahoma have selected an official state rock song and it is "Do You Realize?" by, of course, The Flaming Lips. Way to go Oklahoma!! You guys stepped outside of the box and selected a great, uplifting song by a band comprised of oklahomans led by the one and only Wayne Coyne. Wayne Coyne not only still resides in Oklahoma City but he gives back to the community, and lends some well earned respect to the state of Oklahoma. So my hats go off to Oklahoma and their kick ass new rock song. Do yourself a favor and download this song immediately if you don't already have it. The song will brighten your day and make you want to be a better person.
