Conan in Eugene, OR (4/12/2010)

Conan O'Brien: The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour kicked off it's run last night in Eugene, OR, and we had the honor of attending the show. Conan put on an amazing performance that was packed with lots of laughs, and great music. Conan reunited with The Legally Prohibited Band (comprised of all the members of The Tonight Show/Late Night band minus Max Weinberg), and announcer/sidekick Andy Richter. A few familiar aspects from Conan's TV days were a part of the show. The Masturbating Bear came on stage and was promptly made over into The Self-pleasuring Panda. Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog made a video taped appearance, and The Walker Texas Ranger Lever was rechristened The Chuck Norris Rural Policeman Handle. Deon Cole, former Tonight Show writer known for his "A Black Thing You Ought to Know", provided a brief stand-up routine. Conan donned a guitar several times during the evening and performed songs such as "Poke Salad", "40 Days", "On The Road Again", and "I Will Survive"(see video below). For most of the songs Conan added his own humorous lyrics. A few video segments were sprinkled throughout the show including a dramatization of an unemployed Conan moping around his house before getting a phone call that launches Conan into a Rocky-sque montage in order to get ready for the live show tour. Conan was then "disguised" as an evil network TV executive, complete with a stuffed white cat, in the other videos. The night was full of surprises but some definite highlights included a surprise performance by Spoon, guest Chuck Norris Rural Policeman Handle puller Jack McBrayer (aka Kenneth from 30 Rock), Conan licking LaBamba's face, and a giant inflatable bat that was supposedly from Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell Tour. Conan did briefly mention that he would be returning to TV in November on TBS. We thought Conan put on a great live show, and thanks to YouTube you can find a lot videos from the night like the one below.

Comedian/musician Reggie Watts opened the show with his hilarious songs, and even threw in a pretty dead on Billy Cosby impression.
